Most amplifier outputs are very low impedance, so it may seem like a short to the first amplifier. This is obviously not good. In fact both amplfiers may see potentially destructive loads. Why don’t you just take the left and right preamp level outputs of the surround system and feed them into aux inputs of the Kenwood. If you can do that you only have to switch the input of the Kenwood to aux when you want to use the home theater system.
